Daisy Update

During last Friday's meeting (2/19/10) the Daisy's earned two petals:
Light Blue - for honest and fair
Yellow - for friendly and helpful
For honest and fair, the girls broke up into groups and divided up beads honestly and fairly amongst themselves and each made a bracelet. For friendly and helpful they glued little blue hands on green paper that said "A Helping Hand Was Here" which they were suppose to leave whenever they helped out or did chores. Hopefully you have seen some of those little hands lying around. :-)
We ran out of time at the last meeting to hand out the petals, so we will be doing that at the March 5th meeting. If your Daisy has not earned their "center" yet, I will hold onto the petals until they have. We are very close to all of them having it. In order for them to have earned their center, they had to memorize and recite the Girl Scout Promise.

We will be going on a field trip to the Fire Station on our next meeting, March 5th. Your Daisy was given a permission slip for you to sign and return in order for them to go. If you didn't get one please let me know and I will get one out to you.
If ever you have any questions don't hesitate to call me.

Thanks
Tammy Robertson

Reminders

Permission slips are required for your scout to attend our field trip to the Wellington Fire Station.  We ran short on permission slips, so if you did not get one, I will get it to you this week.  **For our girls that arrive late, please come right to the fire station to join our troop. You might also want to have a snack before you come.  Don't forget your dollar for your Fire Station patch.

Cookie Money is due on Friday, March 5.  Our Cookie Mom, Traci will stay behind to take your cookie money deposit if you still have some to turn in.  You do not need to wait until Friday to give it to her though.  Call her at 568-3829 to make arrangments to turn your funds in early

Mark your calendar for our Parent meeting Wednesday, March 10 at 6:30. We will be answering questions and talking about camp/overnights.

Looking for more to do with your scout?

Have you checked out the Events & Activites link on the http://www.girlscoutsofcolorado.org/ website?  If not you should. There is always something going on that your scout can attend.  Sometimes there are fun activities to do or badge earning opportunities.  Check it out often so you don't miss out on something fun!

Does your Brownie or Junior want to earn more badges?  They can choose an activity out of their scouting book (Try-Its for Brownies or Badge Book for Juniors) to work on at home.  When she has completed the requirements for a badge she can share the activity with our troop. For badges completed outside of our group, you are responsible for the cost of the badge.  However, we can still award the badge at a meeting. If you have an questions please contact one of your leaders.

Cookie Walkabout

One of the badges that the girls have an option of earning with the cookie sales is a Walkabout badge.  It is taking cookies out in a wagon (or something similar) and knocking on doors.  Some of the girls had indicated that they might want to give this a try.

If you would like to sell some cookies door to door (in a group), join us at the park on McClelland Rd at 9:00am on Saturday, February 27th.  McClelland is on the East side of the freeway.  If you turn onto Co RD 62 (ACE Hardware) and then take the first right, that is McClelland, just follow until you see the park on the West side of the road.  From there we will break up into some groups and go door to door. Please bring a wagon to haul your cookies.  I will bring cookies to sell.  The amount of cookies sold will be equally divided among those that participate in the Walkabout.

If you are planning on attending, please let me know so I can bring enough cookies for everyone.  Parents are encouraged to participate with their scout.  RSVP by Thursday at 9am

***If there is a lot of snow on the ground, this event will be cancelled.

Note to Daisy Parents

To the Daisy Parents:

Patches: As a daisy there are not as many patches to earn as the older girls. The 1st patch must be the “Blue” center of the daisy. The girls earn this by learning the Girl Scout Promise. Please help your daisy with this. We recite the promise at the beginning of each meeting. The other petals are earned in any order, and we will be working on these as a troop. Below is a list of the color of the petal what each petal represents. Keep in mind that the kindergarteners have the rest of this year and all of next year to earn these petals.

We understand that we need to help the 1st graders earn the petals much faster. If your daughter is a 1st grader right now she needs to earn all of her petals by the end of April of 2010 in order to go through the bridging ceremony in May. We are working on the requirements for the daisies to bridge to brownies and we will keep you updated.

We are open to any suggestions you may have to help us. Please keep in mind that our troop is new and we are all still learning the ropes. We will do our best to get all the information to you. However, it is best if we can email due to the cost of copies. If this won’t work for you please let us know so we can accommodate you.

Reminder for Friday's Troop Meeting

We hope to be giving out more badges this week! I think there will be badges given out in all 3 groups. Don't forget that there are specific places on the tunic, vest or sash for badges to go. There will be Placement Flyers on the Parent Table, please pick one up so you can have it handy.
We are starting to think about Bridging. This is when a scout moves up a level in groups (Daisy to Brownie, Brownie to Junior). There are several requirements for the girls to do this. One of them is a field trip so we are checking into places around Wellington that we can take a field trip to that can accommodate our large group.
The girls also need to work on a Service Project (something for the community), so once they decide what they would like to do, we will let you know.
Daisy’s – should be working on learning the GS Promise

Browie’s – should be making a new friend at school, church or somewhere else you frequent

Junior’s – should be making their family fun jar and doing at least one activity with their family per week. Please have them bring their Jar/can/box with them to school on Friday if possible, if they haven’t shared it already

Before we can go on a field trip the Leaders need to go through some training and you will need to fill out a Permission Slip.  Stay tuned for more information about the field trip and service project.

What Daisy's are working on.....

Daisy's should be working on learning the Girl Scout Promise. Once they can recite the Promise to one of the Leaders they will earn their Blue Patch, which is the center of their flower. After they earn the Blue Center they can start earning other Petals.

Girl Scout Promise-
On my honor, I will try:

To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The GS Promise is something that we all recite at every meeting. We also recite the GS Law-

The Girl Scout Law -

I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Welcome Aboard!!

I hope that this will make it easier to communicate to all of our families.  If you have any questions please let Katie or I know.

We had a very exciting meeting today!
  • We had 3 Dasiy's earn the blue center of their flower by memorizing the Girl Scout Promise.
  • We also had 3 Brownie's earn their Friends Are Fun badge. They completed 4 friendship activities to earn their badge. Some of our other Brownie's have been absent and should be earning their badges at the next meeting.
The Junior's are also working on a Friendship badge and should have it completed at the next meeting.
